Today’s Bible verse offers one of the most beautiful promises of hope found in all of Scripture:
“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain any more, for the former things have passed away.” — Revelation 21:4
These words give us a glimpse of the future God has prepared for His people—a future in which sorrow, suffering, death, and separation will be gone forever.
Revelation 21 describes the new heaven and the new earth, where God will dwell with His people in perfect peace. The brokenness of this present world will have passed away, and everything damaged by sin will be completely restored.
This verse does not deny the reality of suffering. Instead, it assures us that suffering will not last forever.
God sees every tear.
He knows every loss.
He understands every pain.
And one day, He will make all things new.
A Promise of a World Made New
The three pieces created for this verse each reflect a different part of the hope found in Revelation 21:4.
Together, they tell a story of restoration, healing, belonging, and everlasting life in the presence of God.
The Dawn of the New Creation
The Dawn of the New Creation represents an eternal beginning.
A magnificent sunrise spreads across a renewed earth. Crystal-clear water flows gently through the landscape, wildflowers bloom in abundance, and a peaceful stone path leads toward brilliant golden light on the horizon. Birds fly freely through the glowing sky while two white doves rise above the scene.
The sunrise symbolizes the beginning of life without end.
The flowing water represents eternal life.
The flowers reflect restoration and new creation.
The birds represent freedom.
The golden light points toward the presence and glory of God.
There are no storm clouds, no decay, and no signs of sorrow. Everything feels alive, peaceful, and whole.
This piece quietly expresses the promise that everything broken will one day become beautiful again.
The Garden Where Tears Are No More
The Garden Where Tears Are No More symbolizes the final tear being wiped away.
The garden is filled with white roses, pink peonies, hydrangeas, lavender, butterflies, and peaceful birds. A marble fountain flows endlessly beneath soft celestial light, while morning mist glows gently around the flowers.
Resting upon the petals of a flower is a single crystal tear.
As the light touches it, the tear begins to sparkle like a jewel and disappear.
The image does not focus on suffering itself. Instead, it reflects the moment when suffering is finally over.
The flowing fountain represents life and renewal.
The flowers represent healing and restoration.
The peaceful birds and butterflies suggest freedom from fear.
The disappearing tear represents God’s promise to remove every sorrow forever.
Revelation 21:4 tells us that God will personally wipe away every tear from the eyes of His people. This is not a distant or impersonal promise. It presents the tender image of a loving Father comforting His children and bringing their suffering to an end.
There will come a day when no new tears will replace the ones He wipes away.
Pain will be finished.
Grief will be finished.
Death will be finished.
The former things will have passed away.
The Open Gates of the New Jerusalem
The Open Gates of the New Jerusalem represent God’s people finally coming home.
Massive pearl gates stand open before a radiant city. The River of Life flows freely from within, surrounded by flowers and trees with brilliant leaves. White birds fly peacefully through the open gates, and the entire city shines with warm, heavenly light.
This light does not come from the sun.
It represents the glory of God filling everything.
The open gates symbolize welcome, safety, and belonging. They remain open because nothing evil can enter the city again. There is no danger, no fear, and no darkness.
The shining streets represent purity and glory.
The River of Life represents eternal life in God’s presence.
The trees and flowers reflect the beauty and abundance of the restored creation.
The open gates remind us that God’s people are finally home.
There is no separation from God and no threat of losing what He has restored. His people will dwell with Him forever in perfect peace.
Sorrow Will Not Have the Final Word
Revelation 21:4 does not promise that believers will never experience sorrow during this earthly life.
We still face grief, illness, disappointment, loneliness, fear, injustice, and loss. We may walk through seasons when hope feels distant, and our prayers seem to be answered only with silence.
But this verse assures us that our present suffering is not the end of the story.
Sorrow will not have the final word.
Death will not have the final word.
Pain will not have the final word.
God will.
The same God who sees our suffering today has promised to bring it to an end. He will not simply lessen the pain of the old creation. He will bring forth something entirely new.
There will be no more death.
There will be no more mourning.
There will be no more crying.
There will be no more pain.
The former things will have passed away.
Holding On to Hope
Until that promised day, Revelation 21:4 invites us to hold on to hope.
Our hope is not based on the belief that life will always be easy. It rests in the faithfulness of God and in the victory of Jesus Christ over sin and death.
Because Christ rose from the grave, death is no longer the end for those who belong to Him.
Because God is faithful, every promise He has made will be fulfilled.
Because He is making all things new, the suffering of this present world will not last forever.
The story is not ending in sorrow.
For those who belong to Christ, it is leading toward restoration, healing, beauty, and everlasting life with God.
One day, faith will become sight.
One day, every tear will be wiped away.
One day, everything broken will become beautiful again.
A Prayer for Today
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the hope found in Your promise to make all things new. When we are grieving, hurting, or afraid, help us remember that our suffering will not last forever.
Thank You for seeing every tear, knowing every loss, and understanding every pain. Strengthen our faith as we wait for the day when death, mourning, crying, and pain will be no more.
Help us place our hope in Jesus Christ and trust that You are leading Your people toward restoration, peace, and eternal life in Your presence.
Until that day, give us comfort for today, courage for tomorrow, and faith to keep walking with You.
